A medium sized pig, black in colour with prick ears, white socks, white blaze and white tail tip.
This rare breed pig, originating from Britain, became popular after being discovered approx 300 years ago by Cromwell's troops. They were originally bred in the Faringdon & Wantage regions of Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). Currently there are fewer than 300 breeding sows left in this country. Lively & good natured pig.
The Berkshire pig is a hardy outdoor breed renowned for its meat quality and flavour. It's good old fashioned pork with a layer of crackling to die for! Succulent meat that is great for pork, gammon, bacon or sausages. |
